Enrolment Growth Trajectory in Painting and Contributory Factors at Ladoke Akintola

Abstract
Analysis of students’ enrolment growth in painting in Art School needs a methodological approach. Hence, this study adopted time series technique to assess pattern of students’ enrolment in painting at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. It also explained the factors influencing enrolment trend. Secondary data used were obtained on enrolment and specialization status of students’ for a period of 20 years. Primary data were obtained through questionnaires administered to purposively selected students. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize findings. The least square model generated is y = 5.147 + 0.224x. The equation implies that a unit increase in year would bring about 0.224 unit increase in students enrolment. The weak positive values (b = +0.224; r = +0.333) which were regression and correlation coefficients respectfully associated with enrolment status to confirm the positive steady rate and direct relationships. The coefficient of determination (r2) is 0.111. It implies that 11.11% of variations in the level of enrolment were influenced by changes in year (year factor) and 88.89% were explained by other factors. Among reasons given as factors influencing enrolment were Student’s personal interest (24.24%), market for the art product (18.18%), lecturer’s approach to teaching (15.16%). The study concluded that enrolment figures in painting exhibited a growth trajectory with the effluxion of year and student’s personal interest was the main factor influencing the trend.
